What is I-Care?
I-CARE is a visit program to the hospital in collaboration with Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) Kuantan. For each trip, I-CARE participants, concentrates more on the psychological and spiritual aspect of healing by counseling patients to be more positive and strong-willed. Apart from that, they will also monitor the patients’ knowledge and sensitivity about performing solah during illness in the ward, and offer information on Fiqh Medicine.
At the very least, I-CARE participants are simply there to cheer up patients as some of them may not have relatives or friends who visit them. Additionally, participants can develop their communication skills and strengthen the ukhuwwah between students from various Kulliyyahs. Currently, I-CARE Unit has 20 committees under 4 sub-units which are special task, team manager, sponsorship, and documentation and promotion. On average, I-CARE unit has managed to conduct approximately 5 to 10 visits in a year. Participants will hand out motivational and doa’ (prayer) cards, a guide booklet on how to perform solah for the sick (including graphical examples) and gifts. Initially, participants mainly consist of those from Kulliyyah of Medicine.
However, since 08/09 session, there was an encouraging increase in participation of students from other Kulliyyahs (Dentistry, Sciences, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences and Nursing) as well. In the future, I-CARE has plans to conduct visits to other institutions e.g. Old Folks Home, Home for the Disabled etc.
