IMAM SC (Student Chapter) What is it? IMAM stands for Islamic Medical Association Malaysia (or its old name- PPIM, Persatuan Perubatan Islam Malaysia).
In Malaysia, IMAM acts as a society which brings together all the Muslims doctors in this country. On an international level, IMAM is part of FIMA, Federation of Islamic Associations which combines the Islamic Medical Associations of various Muslim nations. Both FIMA and IMAM have the shared vision of creating a platform where Muslim doctors can discuss issues related to their profession and religion. In Malaysia, IMAM has been established for 19 years. While it began as a doctor exclusive society, it has now expanded to include both medical students and the medical support staff i.e. nurses, medical assistants, pharmacists and those from allied health sciences. IMAM SC (Student Chapter) is unique in that it is made up of Muslim Malaysian medical students studying both locally and abroad.
Active chapters abroad include IMAM UK/EIRE, IMAM India and IMAM Russia, while locally, there are active chapters in most major IPTAs (eg. IIUM, UM, UKM, USM, UPM) as well as in IPTS (Cyberjaya Medical University CUCMS, Royal College of Medicine Perak RCMP, IMU). IMAM in IIUM, while relatively new to be officially acknowledged, has for years been one of the major movers of the local IMAM SC. Within Volunteer Team (VT), IMAM SC functions as a networking platform for Muslim medical students hence, linking the various universities together. On its own, IMAM SC itself also holds several major programs each year for the purpose of strengthening the ukhuwwah between its members. Previous programs of IMAM SC include: The National Annual Scientific Meeting 2007 (23-25th November, UMS, Kota Kinabalu Sabah) The Annual Sunathon Perdana 2008 (15-16th August 2008, Bachok, Kelantan) National Annual Scientific Meeting & Pre-conference 2009 (10-12th July 2009, Senai, Johor)
